The Feed My People breakfast has changed significantly due to the corona virus. A kitchen remodel is further changing our breakfast. We are preparing sack breakfasts to be served at the door to our clients. We continue to prepare the breakfast at First UMC's Family Life Center at 1300 Lavaca St.
The Covid-19/Kitchen remodel version of Feed My People requires fewer volunteers and fewer hours. Volunteers now gather at 5:30AM on Tuesday morning to assemble both the Tuesday and Thursday breakfasts. Additional volunteers gather at 5:30AM on Tuesday and Thursday morning to serve coffee and breakfast to our clients.
We ask that no more than two people from a group or family signup at the same time.
All volunteers must sign up using the link below to participate. This is necessary to assure we comply with maximum group size and social distancing requirements. You may be asked to leave if your arrival without signing up causes us to exceed maximum group size. Face masks required. Gloves provided.
Do you have ideas on ways you would like to volunteer with us?
Do you have a talent, skill, resource or passion that can benefit our families experiencing homelessness?
We would love to hear your ideas!
Past volunteers have knitted warm scarves and hats. Others have engaged with their friends or group to raise funds, collect personal hygiene items or non-perishable foods, and other creative activities. Some volunteer to tutor school aged children with their school work (via Zoom), assist with clerical tasks in the office, and help with upcoming events.
Due to confidentiality and privacy, it is rare for our volunteers to have direct contact with our families. For those type interactions, we recommend volunteering for our Feed My People program.
